The Colours of Rubens da Siva
Editor's
Desk
Rubens
da Silva was born in 1925 in Recife, one of the major cities
in the northeast region of Brazil. He grew up in the city
of Rio de Janeiro where he lives today.
Mr. Silva left for Germany in 1954
where he studied Engineering in Munich. Starting in 1960
worked for Sulzer Bros., a Swiss machinery company with
a branch in Brazil, and retired in 1990 as its Managing
Director.
Right after his retirement Mr. Silva
decided to dedicate himself full time and full hearted to
painting, his passion for life, having his works exhibited
in Brazil and Germany.
His colourful paintings have a beautiful
touch of a "naïf style", representing everyday
life scenes from places where he grew up -- Recife and Rio
de Janeiro. On his painting one can always find the fisherman,
the net, the boat, pieceful landscapes, all combined with
the brightness, warmth, and intensity of the Brazilian sun.
Rubens da Silva has recently shown
his work in Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, at the Centro de Arte
de Friburgo.
